Luggage brand development

Businessman and entrepreneur Christian Williams approached Skylab in spring 2008 to ask if we’d help to develop his new idea. Christian has enjoyed a successful career in fashion but had always harbored a wish to develop and market his own brand of snow sports luggage.
We met Christian at Skylab HQ where he presented a name, a loose pencil sketch of a logo, and some images of very early product development.

After a long and interesting discovery session it became clear that the whole snow sports luggage world is populated by big brands, loud graphics and short shelf-life fabric trends. We proposed a more solid and reliable brand, something with longevity and an understated confidence. A product that’s known for quality of build and innovation rather than a bag that has ‘this year’s camo material’.

As a keen skier himself, Christian has always been a fan of Switzerland and Helvetian style in general. It’s safe to say that Switzerland became a huge influence for the forthcoming months.

We created a bold and distinct identity, produced a suite of stationery and designed the promotional print and exhibition material.
After impressing Christian with identity development we were honored to be asked to help develop the design of the luggage and a flexible graphical system of product identification for the range. This ran to many types and variations.

Once the product line was finalised we then embarked on a photography expedition to Saas-Fee in Switzerland to shoot the luggage in its ‘native environment’.

The range launched in late November to much acclaim. Skylab are now busy developing the SnoKart website.
