Splintered The Movie

Intro spot and flash site for 'Splintered'

‘Splintered’ is the forthcoming British horror film directed by Simeon Halligan. Uncompromising fIlm-maker Simeon decided he wanted his new film to stand shoulder to shoulder with the best of what Hollywood had to offer and set about shooting the horror feature on the emerging 4k Red format.

His high standards did not stop with the filming, Simeon asked Skylab to provide a highly creative and memorable title sequence and also a promotional website that would help convey the whole mood of the film.

Filming for the horror feature took place in an abandoned seminary in the North of England. St.Joseph’s was the UK’s biggest ‘training school for priests’, it’s doors were closed in the late 80’s due to lack of funding. Since then, the only visitor has been caretaker Hugh.

It’s a location famed for it’s spooky corners and weird religious artifacts and in addition to it being the location for ‘Splintered’ it has also been used by BBC drama ‘Apparitions’ and a couple of late-night ‘Hollyoaks’ episodes. Simeon decide to cast the seminary as an abandoned orphanage.

St.Joseph’s seemed like the logical place for the Skylab team to begin the conceptual phase of the title sequence project. When we reccie’d the site we were struck by the strange way that the place was almost ‘frozen in time’. There were many signs of the activity that was happening as they closed the doors for the last time in the 80’s. Faded wallpapers, religious schoolbooks, blackboards, stuffed animals, pictures on the walls and a strange ‘training chapel’ with 20-plus altars.
We decided to try and capture the essence of this ‘lost time’ in our treatment.

The ‘Splintered’ intro spot was our first 2k piece. Music was composed by our good friend Rich Bodgers.

The website phase of the project allowed us to pick up an important scene from the film where the lead girl gets imprisoned in the orphanage’s secure room by the film’s monster. Head on over to Splintered The Movie to check it out.
