Front End Developer

Skylab is a digital agency specialising in digital strategy and software development based in Trafford Park in Manchester - we’re hiring a number of additional developers.

What you’ll be doing:

Our staff work across all aspects of the delivery process in small, cross-functional teams creating WordPress sites and bespoke web applications. Some current projects include websites for international sporting federations, content management APIs and bespoke social networks.

The role will be a blend of architecting solutions, hands-on development, code reviews, helping set standards and getting involved in writing technical documents and proposals.

What we’re looking for:

Not all of these are essential, as long as you have a lust for knowledge. We will happily talk to you about your natural strengths and also the areas that you are keen to improve. Skylab is a wonderful journey and we are here to help you every step of the way.

You definitely:

  • Have at least three years commercial experience.
  • Are a smart, motivated, focused person who enjoys producing amazing software.
  • Are highly proficient in traditional HTML & CSS methodologies.
  • Have an excellent understanding of CSS pre-processors such as SASS (SCSS).
  • Excel in both vanilla JavaScript & a range of JavaScript libraries.
  • Have an eye for great UI and the ability to recommend changes to fix usability issues.
  • Highly competent in using task runners such as Grunt & Gulp, along with a solid understanding of Node Package Manager.
  • Have experience in web performance optimization and profiling.
  • Exhibit good written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to work with the team.

It’d be nice if you:

  • Have a working knowledge of PHP and MySQL.
  • Had some commercial experience writing applications in Node.js.
  • Have experience with Git.
  • Are proficient with tools and applications such as Omnigraffle and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Had the desire to embrace automated testing and continually deliver software.
