In case you haven’t stumbled across this yet, there are a number of Olympic apps available for download from the app marketplace across a number of mobile platforms. The key three downloads that Skylab recommend you take a look at have been commissioned by LOCOG, the official organisers of London 2012. Each Olympic app focuses on delivering specific content to the end user, including schedules, results and general tour guides for visiting fans.
It’s of no surprise to see apps being launched for an event such as the Olympics, this is something that even the least experienced mobile user would expect! What is truly refreshing to see is the amount of thought and detail the organisers have put into these three apps. All of the apps appeal to such a wide target audience, catering for every event, its schedule, up to date results so you are always kept well abreast of the action, regular updates to the platform to maintain its speed and delivery of content. And available to every mobile user providing their platform supports an app marketplace.
Besides the official apps Android’s Play Market and the iTunes App Market have a vast number of other Olympics focused apps from developers worldwide including apps from broadcasters such as the BBC. So there really is something out there for everybody.
It’s almost frightening to think about just how fast the ‘app’ has been integrated into our daily routines, arguably most of them are fun or unusable, or are quickly discarded and deleted as fast as they are downloaded. From streaming live video to instant fixtures and results and even the integration of Augmented Reality it’s hard to imagine what the next Olympic games in 2016, Rio De Janeiro will present to the world.
One aspect that is certain, is the continual growth of technology and how we as humans digest information, whether it’s through mobile, social media, live streaming or user generated content as such a vast rate. And an event such as the Olympics is only going to excel this further as our consumption demands increase.
Whether you have tickets or not everyone is able to get up close and personal, providing access to events, sharing and discussing, with friends, family and strangers alike and it’s this capability that will play a huge part in determining whether the event, global or local is a success or a failure.
If you have an event that requires local or global attention then, much like the Olympics, mobile and social media will help to deliver the ideal results and Skylab can help you do that.
