When we sat down and decided it was time to redesign studioskylab.com one of our key objectives was to create a space where we could experiment and learn.
As a big fan of the iPhone I decided that one of our first projects should be to create a mobile version of our site and today I’m excited to announce that studioskylab.com is iPhone optimised.
When you browse to studioskylab.com on your iPhone you’ll be automatically presented with a version of our site that is totally tailored to the iPhone browsing experience.
Mobile access to the internet is becoming increasingly important.
The iPhone and similar mobile devices are redefining our relationship with the internet. Increasingly we’re connected while on-the-go, consuming information regularly and quickly. This evolution in viewing behaviour demands an adjustment in how we as designers present information on screen.
In time, consumers will come to expect a mobile optimised experience when they visit your site and we’ve seen many of the larger online brands experimenting with such services; bbc.co.uk, google.co.uk, facebook.com, amazon.co.uk and ebay.co.uk to name a few.
Things are now set to get really exciting as T-Mobile’s G1, featuring Google’s Android operating system hits UK stores. There’s nothing like a good dose of competition to shake things up and drive innovation.
Of course when you consider the wider picture it’s not simply the pocket sized screens of mobile devices we need to optimise for. Through devices like Playstation 3 and Xbox we’re seeing the proliferation of internet browsing in the living room - but that’s another project!
So, our iPhone optimised site is the first step on a long and exciting journey.
We have grand plans for rolling out different ‘views’ of our site according to how you, the visitor, want to consume it.
We’ll be adding additional devices in the near future and we’ll be blogging in greater detail about the technical considerations.
