27-year-old Temirtas Zhussupov has impressed in Season V with three victories against just one defeat. The two-time Kazakh National Champion defeated both Azerbaijan’s Rasul Saliyev and America’s Joshua Franco in away matches, before enjoying an excellent home success over Russia’s Vadim Kudriakov in the semi-finals.

Only two boxers have defeated Zhussupov in his WSB career, and he named two-time Olympic Games bronze medalist Patrick Barnes as his most difficult opponent this season after narrowly losing to the talented Irish boxer in a very entertaining match. Away from boxing, Zhussupov enjoys fishing and eating Beshbarmak, the national dish of Kazakhstan.

Zhussupov began his boxing career at the age of 16, becoming the first member of his family to take up the sport. Taking inspiration from 2004 Athens Olympic Champion Bakhtiyar Artayev, the light flyweight (49 kg) is a fast and compact boxer who tends to dominate contests from the outset.

A gold medal from the 2013 Asian Championships is considered the greatest success of his career, while the Kazakh star has won medals in many European events including the Chemistry Cup, the Strandja Memorial Tournament, the Shokhr Boltekuly Memorial Tournament, and the Great Silk Way Tournament.

With future aspirations of becoming an Olympic Champion, Zhussupov is entering his prime as a boxer, and will hope to end a wonderful Season V with a strong performance in the Finals to help his team become WSB Champions for the second time in their history.
