OVERVIEW
Table tennis is governed worldwide by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and is one of the most popular sports in the world, played professionally or recreationally by over 100 million players of all ages.
The ITTF organises numerous international competitions, including the flagship World Table Tennis Championships and the World Tour.
Their legacy website had grown in an ad-hoc manner over many years, making it difficult to find information. The site was not responsive and therefore didn’t work well on mobile and tablet, compounding an already poor user experience. The website was in need of a complete overhaul.
the brief
DIGITAL TOOLKIT
First we delivered a comprehensive content strategy which assisted ITTF in undertaking a thorough content audit and migration from their existing website.
Then we enhanced the branding, bringing it fully up to date with a new digital visual language and a series of page templates optimised for mobile, tablet and desktop. This new digital toolkit allowed ITTF to hit the deadline and launch phase one of the new website in time for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
PHASED APPROACH
We are in the process of developing an API which will serve data such as draws, results, rankings, as well as player data. Surfacing this important information across the website will help to drive greater engagement for the media, officials, fans and sponsors.
Chinese market
We designed and built a Chinese version of the website that was hosted locally in China to maximise visibility and performance.
“So far so good working with Skylab. They have a very professional team working on the massive job of creating the new ITTF.com website, which will be a state-of-the-art responsive site to service the millions of worldwide table tennis fans.”
